New CCTV Footage Surfaces Ahead Of Attack On Delhi CM Rekha Gupta

Investigators have obtained CCTV footage linked to the attack on Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, revealing that the accused, Rajesh Bhai Khimji Bhai Sakariya, lingered outside her Shalimar Bagh residence for several minutes prior to the incident.

The video, dated 19 August, depicts Rajesh arriving at the Chief Minister’s private home on a cycle rickshaw. He can be seen filming the surroundings before entering the premises.

For more than 11 minutes, he moved in and out of the property, apparently surveying the area.

During this period, members of staff handed him a slip. The slip contained the Civil Lines address of the Chief Minister and the schedule for her Jan Sunvai public hearing.

It was at this Jan Sunvai on Wednesday that Rajesh allegedly slapped Chief Minister Gupta and pulled her hair.

Delhi Police subsequently booked him for attempted murder under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and secured a five-day remand for questioning.

Officers said the 41-year-old, who hails from Rajkot, reached Delhi by train on Tuesday morning in what was his first visit to the capital.

He lodged at Gujarati Bhavan in Civil Lines, occupying Room D-5 on the second floor, before travelling to Shalimar Bagh.

According to police, he even told a friend in a phone call that he planned to go to the Chief Minister’s residence.

In the aftermath of the attack, security at the Civil Lines residence has been strengthened.

Gupta has been granted ‘Z category’ cover, with CRPF personnel deployed for her protection.

Police further disclosed Rajesh’s criminal past: five cases were filed against him at Bhaktinagar Police Station in Rajkot. He was acquitted in four, while one case remains open and is due for hearing on 9 September.

Enquiries are continuing, with Gujarat Police assisting Delhi authorities in building Rajesh’s profile.
