Nepal-Tibet Flash Floods: Sadhguru Seeks Permission To Reach Gyirong, Help Missing Isha Group

Spiritual leader Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev has sought permission to reach Gyirong in Tibet after flash floods struck the Nepal-Tibet border. He said an 80-member group linked to the Isha Foundation caught in the disaster.

Sadhguru said 484 people were reportedly missing on the Nepali side, while authorities had released no official figures from Tibet. He said communications had collapsed, roads remained blocked, and the scale of destruction was severe.

The group comprised 22 US, 12 Canadian, 11 Australian, nine British, four German, three French, three Nepali, two Dutch, two New Zealand, two Singaporean and two Spanish participants.

Finland, Hungary, Israel, Lithuania, the Philippines, Portugal, Russia and South Africa had one participant each.

The group included 34 men and 46 women, alongside three volunteers and a doctor. Other volunteers stayed at nearby hotels.

Sadhguru said group leader Ishanga Praveen messaged him at 09:05 AM on Wednesday after reaching immigration.

The disaster struck at 09:14 AM.

Praveen’s Nepal phone did not reconnect, suggesting the group remained at the immigration building. He said the flood had washed away the building and destroyed much of the nearby town.

Sadhguru estimated the overall number affected on the Tibetan side could exceed 1,500, although no official figure was available.

Embassies representing the group’s nationalities in India and Nepal have been informed.

Sadhguru said he was seeking permission through the Indian and Chinese embassies, with the US Embassy assisting. He appealed for permission to travel with a small volunteer team to Gyirong. He said they would respect rescue operations and help families search for signs of their missing relatives.

“We deeply respect and understand the nature of the rescue efforts and will in no way hamper them,” he said.
