CP Radhakrishnan, the NDA candidate for the Vice Presidential election, will file his nomination papers today at 11 AM at Parliament House. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will act as the lead proposer for the first set of nomination papers.
The nomination process will include four sets of papers, each with signatures from 20 proposers and 20 seconders. While PM Modi will lead the first set, the remaining sets will carry signatures from Union ministers and senior NDA leaders, reflecting a broad consensus within the alliance.
Approximately 160 NDA members, including ministers and MPs, will attend the nomination filing.
NDA floor leaders unanimously decided to nominate CP Radhakrishnan during a meeting at the residence of Union Minister Pralhad Joshi.
Senior NDA ally Jitan Ram Manjhi confirmed the unanimous backing. He stated that all leaders present pledged full support for Radhakrishnan’s candidature.
Earlier on Sunday, PM Modi lauded Radhakrishnan’s contributions to public life. He described him as a leader with ‘humility, intellect, and grassroots connect’.
Taking to X, PM Modi posted, “In his long years in public life, Thiru CP Radhakrishnan Ji has distinguished himself with his dedication, humility and intellect. During the various positions he has held, he has always focused on community service and empowering the marginalised. He has done extensive work at the grassroots in Tamil Nadu. I am glad that the NDA family has decided to nominate him as the Vice Presidential candidate of our alliance.”
Radhakrishnan, a senior BJP leader and the current Governor of Meghalaya, has had an extensive political and administrative career. He has served as a Member of Parliament from Tamil Nadu, and is recognised for his legislative acumen and commitment to social empowerment.
Radhakrishnan is projected to win next month’s Vice Presidential election, and the NDA will reinforce its position in the Upper House.
