NDA Picks Maharashtra Governor CP Radhakrishnan As Vice-Presidential Candidate

The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) on Sunday announced Maharashtra Governor CP Radhakrishnan as the candidate for the post of Vice President.

The BJP Parliamentary Board, delegated to pick the party’s choice for the Vice Presidential elections, took the decision at its meeting.

The opposition INDIA bloc is yet to finalise its candidate for the elections. The Vice Presidential elections will likely take place on 9 September 2025.

Earlier in the day, Governor CP Radhakrishnan visited the Sri Siddhivinayak Temple in Mumbai and sought the blessings of Lord Ganesha.

Political Journey of CP Radhakrishnan

Born October 20, 1957, in Tiruppur, Tamil Nadu, Chandrapuram Ponnuswamy Radhakrishnan held key positions in the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) in his political journey, including Tamil Nadu state president from 2003 to 2006.

Radhakrishnan took charge as the Governor of Maharashtra on July 31, 2024. Before this, he served as Governor of Jharkhand from February 18, 2023, to July 30, 2024.

Moreover, he also assumed additional charge of the Governor of Telangana from March to July 2024 and as the LG of Pondicherry from March to August 2024.

Beginning his political Journey with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and Bharatiya Jana Sangh, Radhakrishana represented Coimbatore in the Lok Sabha twice after getting elected in 1998 and 1999.

During his tenure as Tamil Nadu BJP president, he undertook a 93-day Ratha Yatra highlighting issues such as interlinking of rivers, combating terrorism, and annihilation of untouchability.
