Nayab Singh Saini, accompanied by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, met Governor Bandaru Dattatreya on Wednesday to stake a claim to form the government. Saini was unanimously elected leader of the BJP legislature party.
Saini, 54, will take the oath as Chief Minister on Thursday at Parade Ground in Panchkula. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, and Chief Ministers of BJP-ruled states will attend. Three Independent MLAs—Savitri Jindal, Devendra Kadyan, and Rajesh Doon—have also backed Saini and joined him at Raj Bhawan.
Earlier, Saini was chosen as BJP legislature party leader in a meeting attended by Amit Shah and Madhya Pradesh CM Mohan Yadav. Shah praised the BJP for forming the government for the third time. The BJP won 48 out of 90 seats, while Congress took 37. All three Independents have supported the BJP.
Saini thanked voters for trusting the BJP and promised to carry forward Prime Minister Modi’s vision for the state.
