The Mumbai police have advised residents to remain indoors until 8:30 am tomorrow following a forecast of heavy rain from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), which has issued a “red alert” for the city. The advisory, posted on X by the Mumbai Police, urges residents to stay safe and only venture out if absolutely necessary, and to dial 100 or 112 in case of emergencies.
The adverse weather conditions have resulted in the cancellation of eleven flights and the diversion of ten others to nearby airports. Over the past 24 hours, rainfall measurements recorded 44 mm in Mumbai city, 90 mm in the eastern suburbs, and 89 mm in the western suburbs.
Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has been actively monitoring the situation. He contacted the Raigad collector, instructing them to assist flood-affected residents. Additionally, a landslide at Tamhini Ghat on the Raigad-Pune route has halted traffic.

The heavy rains have caused waterlogging on roads and in homes in Pune. Significant rainfall has been reported at Khadakwasla Dam and its catchment area. The District Collector, Municipal Commissioner, and Police Commissioner are on high alert, according to Mr. Shinde’s statement to the news agency ANI.
In response to the situation, teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and its state counterpart have been deployed. The army’s airlifting teams are also on standby, ready to assist as needed.
