The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has deployed Inter-Ministerial Central Teams (IMCTs) to Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, and Jammu and Kashmir. The teams will assess damage caused by heavy rainfall, floods, flash floods, cloudbursts, and landslides, an official said on Sunday.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah directed the move. The MHA said the teams will inspect the situation on the ground and review relief work by state governments.
“Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Central government stands shoulder to shoulder with states hit by natural calamities,” the statement said.
The IMCTs will visit the affected districts early next week. These states and the union territory have seen heavy to extremely heavy rainfall this monsoon. They also faced flash floods, cloudbursts, and landslides.
An IMCT and a Multi-Sectoral Team have already visited Himachal Pradesh. A Joint Secretary-level officer leads each Central team from MHA or NDMA. The teams include senior officers from Expenditure, Agriculture, Jal Shakti, Power, Road Transport, and Rural Development.
The MHA is coordinating with state officers. It has sent NDRF teams, Army units, and Air Force helicopters. They are conducting search and rescue operations and restoring essential services.
The ministry recalled a decision taken by Amit Shah in 2019. Since then, IMCTs are sent immediately after major disasters without waiting for state reports. Their assessments decide financial aid from the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF).
In 2025–26, the Centre released ₹10,498.80 crore to 24 states under SDRF. It also released ₹1,988.91 crore from NDRF to 12 states, ₹3,274.90 crore from the State Disaster Mitigation Fund (SDMF) to 20 states, and ₹372.09 crore from the National Disaster Mitigation Fund (NDMF) to nine states.
