MDMK Leader A Ganeshamurthi Died After Consuming Pesticide; Here’s The Complete Story

A Ganeshamurthi, MP from Erode and MDMK leader allegedly attempted suicide a few days ago as he consumed pesticide on March 24. After that, the leader was rushed to hospital in the region in a serious condition. On Thursday morning, around 5.05 Ganeshamurthi died of cardiac arrest at a private hospital in Coimbatore at the age of 76, says the reports coming from hospital. The body has been sent for postmortem.

Ganeshamurthi, who served as a three-time Member of Parliament representing the Erode constituency, held a prominent position within the Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK).

In the 2019 Lok Sabha election, he secured victory under the DMK’s rising sun symbol. However, for the forthcoming general elections, both the MDMK and DMK have opted to nominate Durai Vaiko, the son of MDMK general secretary Vaiko, as their candidate.

MDMK party founder Vaiko who rushed to Coimbatore said, “He was happy with the seat (party ticket) issue. He met me twice. We never expected him to make such a decision. He was in a good mood. I cannot believe that he took such a step and passed away. We pay our deep homage.”

Congress leader Manickam Tagore also conveyed his sorrow regarding the passing of the sitting MP, emphasizing that his unexpected heart attack underscores the delicate nature of life.

“Sad to hear about the passing of Erode Lok Sabha Member Thiru. #GaneshaMurthy. His sudden heart attack highlights the fragility of life. His victories in the 2009 & 2019 elections with MDMK showcased his dedication to the public. Condolences to his loved ones. May he rest in peace,” Tagore said.
