Allahabad, Aug 18: Under the banner of the Allahabad Nursing Home Association, a large march took place today, moving from Patthar Church Civil Lines to Subhash Chauraha Civil Lines. The protest condemned the recent rape and murder of a post-graduate doctor at a Kolkata hospital.
Various local organizations joined the march, including Vyapar Mandal, Lines Club, Rotary Club, Pun Sant Samaj, Allahabad Gynae Society, Inner Wheel Club, Ladies Club, Human Rights Society, and Jaiswal Samaj. The participants demonstrated their outrage and solidarity over the tragic incident in Kolkata.
During the event, speakers called for a fear-free society for women and demanded a safer workplace. They urged authorities to swiftly identify and punish the perpetrators, advocating for the death penalty and strict measures to prevent future incidents.
The protest also voiced frustration with the West Bengal government’s handling of the situation. Many speakers criticized the government’s indecisive response to the case.
Notable figures at the protest included Nursing Home Association President Dr. Raj Kishore Agarwal, Secretary Dr. Vyanjana Pandey, and former President Dr. Avneesh Saxena. Other prominent participants included Dr. Ashish Tandon, Dr. B.B. Agarwal, Dr. Nikunj Kumar Agarwal, Dr. Sapna Agarwal, Dr. Ghanshyam Mishra, Dr. Piyush Dixit, Dr. Bhagwat Pandey, Dr. Uma Jaiswal, Dr. Sabita Agarwal, Dr. Pallavi Singh, Dr. Omer Hassan, Dr. Aroop Banerjee, Dr. Ghanshyam Panday, Dr. Ishita Banerjee, Jamunotri Gupta, Preeti Agarwal, Rachna Agarwal, Suresh Gupta, Seema Garg.
The protest highlighted the community’s urgent demand for justice and effective measures to address such horrific crimes.
The Poonam Sant Mahila and Vikas Samiti organized a protest and candle march from Dharna Chauraha to Subhash Chauraha in Civil Lines, Prayagraj. They demanded justice for the rape and murder of a female doctor in Kolkata.
Poonam Sant, the president of the organization, stated that no amount of condemnation would be sufficient. She called for a judicial bench to impose the death penalty on the culprits without delay. Sant criticized the current judicial process, arguing that it is inadequate for addressing such heinous acts.
National Vice President Ranjana Gulati supported Sant’s call for severe legal action. She demanded that the perpetrators receive the death penalty and described the incident as deeply unfortunate.
National Convenor Isabel Brandish used the protest to appeal to both the central and state governments. She urged them to enhance security for doctors, especially women, to ensure their safety and prevent future incidents.
The candle march drew a large crowd, including Abhishek Sant, Kamini Jain, Madhulika Singh, Shrishti Kumari, Rajni Rastogi, Priya Agarwal, Preeti Sharma, Anjana Banerjee, Shabnam, Dr. Sapna Singh, Dr. Sabita Agarwal, Dr. B.B. Agarwal, Farida Parveen, Seema Devi, Jyoti, Reena, Sanno Devi, Rati Arya, Mamta, and Beena. The participants expressed their peaceful anger and solidarity with the victims through the candlelight vigil.
