Mann Ki Baat: PM Modi Highlights Youth-Led Cleanliness Drives Across India

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while addressing the 138th episode of his monthly ‘Mann Ki Baat’ programme on Sunday, highlighted cleanliness initiatives led by young people and communities across India, saying such efforts reflect Mahatma Gandhi’s emphasis on cleanliness.

With October 2, Gandhi’s birth anniversary, approaching, PM Modi recalled his message on cleanliness and urged citizens to increase public participation in keeping their surroundings clean. He said individual efforts can inspire wider community involvement and described cleanliness as the ‘most beautiful tribute’ to Bapu.

The Prime Minister cited several examples of young people leading cleanliness campaigns across the country.

In Madhya Pradesh, youngsters are cleaning a river with support from the local community. In Andhra Pradesh, young people are cleaning old stepwells and wells, helping restore heritage sites.

PM Modi highlighted cleanliness efforts along Mumbai’s coastline, where young volunteers gather every week to clean different beaches. He said hundreds of young people participate in these drives and contribute to keeping public spaces clean.

In Delhi, children and young people are spreading awareness about waste segregation and encouraging residents to keep their surroundings clean.

The Prime Minister said such initiatives show how young citizens can play an important role in building cleaner communities. He further pointed to efforts in West Bengal, where students and local residents are joining hands to clean markets and picnic spots.

PM Modi said these examples demonstrate the strength of public participation, with individual initiatives encouraging larger groups to join cleanliness campaigns. He further urged citizens to continue such efforts as October 2 approaches and make cleanliness a collective responsibility.

The Prime Minister said community-led initiatives not only improve local surroundings but strengthen awareness about cleanliness and civic responsibility. He called for continued participation from young people and communities in cleanliness drives across the country.
