Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday reflected on 12 years of his monthly radio programme ‘Mann Ki Baat’, describing its journey as no less than a pilgrimage. He said the programme had provided an opportunity to recognise the extraordinary contributions of ordinary Indians across different sectors and thanked listeners for their continued warmth and affection.
Addressing the 139th episode of ‘Mann Ki Baat’, PM Modi recalled that the programme began on October 3, 2014, on the auspicious occasion of Vijayadashami.
The first episode was broadcast across All India Radio, also known as Akashvani, and Doordarshan networks.
“Twelve years ago, on the auspicious occasion of Vijayadashami, we began ‘Mann Ki Baat’. Since then, our journey has continued uninterrupted. All of you have been both fellow travellers and inspiration of this journey,” the Prime Minister said.
PM Modi described the programme as a valuable platform to celebrate the hard work, courage, commitment, dedication and spirit of service displayed by ordinary citizens. He said India had a centuries-old tradition of pilgrimages, adding that ‘Mann Ki Baat’ had allowed him to understand people’s efforts closely and pay tribute to their contributions.
“For me, ‘Mann Ki Baat’ is not less than a pilgrimage to closely understand the efforts of people of the country and to pay tributes to their contributions,” he said, adding that people who dedicate their lives to society and the nation were themselves like places of pilgrimage.
PM Modi said ‘Mann Ki Baat’ highlights inspiring stories of Indians whose contributions often go unnoticed. He said the programme helps him connect with families across the country. He thanked listeners for their affection and support over the past 12 years.
