Manish Malhotra Designs Air India’s Stylish New Uniforms for Pilots and Crew, See here

In a historic move, Air India has unveiled a fresh look for its pilots and crew members, marking the first change in crew uniforms in six decades since the airline’s founding in 1932. This announcement comes at a pivotal time as the airline integrates Vistara into its operations through a merger.

The new uniforms, set to be introduced by the end of this year, symbolize “an ode to Air India’s rich history and a promise of a bright future,” as stated by the airline in a post on social media platform X. Renowned fashion designer Manish Malhotra was enlisted to craft the new uniforms for the airline’s extensive team, including over 10,000 flight crew, ground staff, and security personnel. The uniforms feature a palette of red, aubergine, and gold, chosen to represent the confident and vibrant spirit of the new India.

A video shared on X showcases crew members donning the latest designs, highlighting the modern and sophisticated aesthetic envisioned by Manish Malhotra. The official Air India statement expressed that the new uniforms are a crucial element in the manifestation of Air India’s evolving global brand identity as part of its ongoing modernization initiative.

The airline aims to begin implementing the new look for its uniformed employees by the conclusion of 2023. This unveiling is part of Air India’s broader revamp plan, which includes a substantial order for 470 aircraft from Boeing and Airbus earlier this year.

Campbell Wilson, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Air India, emphasized the historical significance of the airline’s crew uniforms and expressed confidence that Manish Malhotra’s innovative designs will script an exciting new chapter in Air India’s future narrative. Wilson stated, “It perfectly captures the essence of our new identity, service principles, and our pursuit of setting new benchmarks in global aviation.”

Designer Manish Malhotra shared his honor in being chosen for this project, stating, “It is a privilege to be able to contribute to the national flag-bearer and showcase the elegance and charm of Indian fashion. My aim was to create uniforms that capture the essence of India’s diverse culture and traditions while also embodying a modern and sophisticated look.”

With these revamped uniforms, Air India seeks to not only pay homage to its storied past but also to embrace a contemporary identity that aligns with the airline’s ongoing commitment to excellence and modernization.
