Manipur Authorities To Enforce Strict Measures Against Theft Of Weapons And Ammunition From Security Forces

The Manipur police have announced strict measures against individuals responsible for seizing weapons and ammunition from security forces in the state, which has been hit by violence. Manipur’s Director General of Police, Rajiv Kumar, issued this directive following a recent incident at the second IRB in Narenseina, Bishnupur district. In his efforts to restore peace, the DGP appealed to Manipur’s residents to collaborate with security forces and commended the joint endeavours of state and Central security forces in minimizing casualties.

The DGP made these statements during a ceremony honouring the late Tourangbam Rishikumar Singh of the 6th Manipur Rifles battalion. The event took place at the Manipur Police Memorial pillar within the 1st Manipur Rifles battalion campus in Imphal West. Singh, aged 43, was fatally shot while helping villagers evacuate from a militant attack in Senjam Chirang. A village defence volunteer also sustained a minor injury. The DGP expressed condolences for the loss of security personnel’s lives and assured an inquiry to bring the culprits of the violence to justice.

At the wreath-laying ceremony, the late Singh was honoured with garlands, floral tributes, and gun salutes from the Manipur Rifles personnel. Following the ceremony, Singh’s remains were taken to his birthplace for final rites. Dignitaries including Ministers K Govindas and Heikham Dingo, MLAs Khongbantabam Ibomcha and Surjakumar Okram, high-ranking officers, and the deceased’s family members participated in the event.
