Mani Shankar Aiyar On Trump’s Win: ‘A Felon And Despicable Man’ Chosen As US President

Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar expressed disappointment over Donald Trump’s victory in the US Presidential elections. Talking to IANS, Aiyar criticized Trump, calling him a “felon” with a “despicable” character. He regretted that Kamala Harris, a politician with ties to India, did not win. Aiyar emphasized that Trump is “the wrong person” to lead the world, based on his past actions.

Disapproval of Trump’s Victory

Aiyar said he found it disheartening that Trump was elected, highlighting the former president’s controversial history. He noted that while Trump’s victory impacts global politics, his personal character made him unfit for the presidency. “I deeply regret that such a person has been chosen as the world’s most powerful leader,” Aiyar remarked.

Concerns over One Nation, One Election Bill

On the One Nation, One Election (ONOE) Bill, Aiyar called it “nonsense.” He argued that India’s strength lies in its diversity, which he believes the ONOE undermines. According to Aiyar, it would be unfair to impose a uniform election model on states with unique political dynamics. He pointed out that southern states like Tamil Nadu would be particularly affected by such a system.

Critique of UCC in Uttarakhand

Aiyar also commented on the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in Uttarakhand. He expressed uncertainty about the opinions of minority communities in the state but acknowledged that their population is small. While he considered the current model in Uttarakhand acceptable, he warned against making it a nationwide standard.
