A 45-year-old man from Gorakhpur who allegedly made threats to kill Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath by calling the UP-112 helpline has been detained by the UP police.
The Station House Officer (SHO) of Deoria Kotwali, DK Mishra, confirmed that the call was placed late on Sunday night to the UP-112 helpline. The caller identified himself as Arun Kumar, a resident of Bhujauli Colony in the city.
Subsequently, the police officials traced the location of the mobile phone to Devrad village in Harpur Budhat, Gorakhpur district. The accused, identified as Sanjay Kumar, was apprehended on Monday morning, according to the SHO.
Further investigation revealed that the 45-year-old man was under the influence of alcohol when he made the threatening call. The police are currently interrogating Kumar to gather more details about the incident. A case has been registered against him.
Last month, a similar call was made to the Delhi Police where a man threatened to murder Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Bihar CM Nitesh Kumar and Union home minister Amit Shah. The accused who had called the police twice to issue threats was identified as Sudheer Sharma, a resident of Madipur, Paschim Vihar. According to the officials, the accused was an alcoholic and was intoxicated while he made the phone call.
