Man Arrested After Firing Incident At Jammu Event Attended By Farooq Abdullah, Surinder Choudhary

A suspect was apprehended on Wednesday evening following a firing incident at a private function attended by Farooq Abdullah and Surinder Choudhary in Jammu.

The firing reportedly occurred when the two leaders were leaving the venue after attending the event.

Authorities said it was not immediately clear whether the suspected firing attempt was aimed at the VVIPs.

The accused, identified as Kamal Singh Jamwal, was quickly overpowered by security personnel present at the venue and taken into custody.

Senior police officials soon reached the spot after the incident was reported.

An investigation has been launched to determine the circumstances surrounding the firing and to establish the motive behind it.

In a brief statement, Jammu and Kashmir Police said, “An incident of firing was reported at a function where JKNC chief Farooq Abdullah and Deputy CM Surinder Choudhary were present. One person has been arrested. More details are awaited.”

Eighty-nine-year-old Abdullah is a senior national leader and currently the president of the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference. He is protected by the National Security Guard due to the threat perception assessed by intelligence agencies.

Abdullah served as the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir multiple times between 1982 and 2002. He also served as the Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy from 2009 to 2014.

Farooq Abdullah is the son of Sheikh Abdullah, the first elected Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir. He is also the father of the current Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah.
