Mamata Dedicates TMCP Day To Memory Of Doctor Murdered At RG Kar Hospital

On Wednesday, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee dedicated the Trinamool Congress Chhatra Parishad (TMCP) Foundation Day to the memory of a young woman doctor from RG Kar Medical College & Hospital, who was recently the victim of a brutal rape and murder.

In a heartfelt message shared on her official X handle, Banerjee expressed deep condolences to the family of the deceased, emphasizing the urgent need for justice.

Banerjee stated, “Today, I dedicate the foundation day of the Trinamool Chhatra Parishad to our sister, whom we tragically lost a few days ago at RG Kar Hospital, leaving us heartbroken.”

“Expressing our deepest condolences to the family of that sister brutally tortured and murdered at RG Kar, we demand swift justice for that incident. At the same time, we express our heartfelt sorrow for all the women across India, of all ages, who have been victims of such inhuman acts,” she further asserted.

Banerjee highlighted the critical role that students and youth play in shaping society.

She however urged them to be the torchbearers of change, inspiring those around them with a vision for a brighter future.

“Students and youth have a significant social role. Their duty is to awaken society and culture, to inspire everyone around them with the bright promise of a new day, and to gift the dream of a better tomorrow. On this day, I appeal to all of them to be motivated and committed to this endeavor. My dear student friends, stay well, stay healthy, and remain dedicated to the pursuit of a bright future,” her post read.

TMCP Foundation Day Amid Tensions: Kolkata Event Coincides With BJP Strike Over Police Actions

The TMCP Foundation Day celebrations in Kolkata, which include a large gathering where the Chief Minister is to speak, come at a time of heightened tensions in the state.

The event however coincides with a 12-hour general strike called by the BJP, protesting police actions during the ‘Nabanna Abhijan’ rally held the previous day.

In response to the rape and murder case that sparked widespread outrage, they organized the rally.

Meanwhile, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has taken charge of the investigation into the heinous crime following a directive from the Calcutta High Court.

The agency is also probing alleged financial irregularities at RG Kar Medical College, with some sources suggesting a possible link between these irregularities and the tragic incident.

As West Bengal grapples with these unfolding events, Banerjee’s call for social responsibility and justice serves as a poignant reminder of the challenges that lie ahead.
