Makar Sankranti: PM Modi Writes To People Of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh And Telangana

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday extended heartfelt Makar Sankranti greetings to the people of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana through special letters. He highlighted the festival’s cultural, agricultural and social importance.

Taking to X, PM Modi posted, “Heartfelt wishes to all fellow citizens on the auspicious occasion of Makar Sankranti. May this divine moment, filled with the sweetness of sesame seeds and jaggery, rooted in Indian culture and traditions, bring joy, prosperity, and success to everyone’s life. May Lord Surya bless us all.”

PM Modi stated in his letter, “On the auspicious occasion of Sankranti, I convey my warmest greetings to you and your family. Sankranti marks a period of hope and positivity, when the movement of the sun signals new beginnings.”

The Prime Minister said that people across the country celebrate Sankranti in different forms but share the same spirit of joy and enthusiasm.

According to him, the festival reflects the richness of India’s cultural landscape. It also serves as a reminder of the spirit of togetherness that unites the nation.

“This festival also holds a special place in the lives of our farmers and their families. It is about expressing gratitude to those who nourish us, thus strengthening our society,” PM Modi said.

“Sankranti encourages us to look ahead with confidence and optimism. May this year be filled with prosperity, positivity and good health. May there be happiness in your home, success in all your endeavours and harmony in society,” he added.

Earlier in the day, PM Modi also extended Makar Sankranti greetings to people across the nation.

Observed across India in various forms, Makar Sankranti marks the harvest season and symbolises renewal, gratitude and fresh beginnings.

In Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, people celebrate the festival as Pedda Panduga, while in Karnataka, they observe it as Suggi Habba. In other regions, communities mark it as Pongal and Magh Bihu, reflecting India’s rich cultural diversity.

Rooted in farming traditions, such celebrations strengthen social bonds and promote harmony. They also mark seasonal change and humanity’s close relationship with nature.
