Major Update From Union Minister On The ‘Vyommitra’ Robot And ISRO’s Gaganyaan Mission

On Saturday, Union Minister Jitendra Singh provided a significant update on the Gagayaan mission of the Indian Space Research Organisation and stated that its trials will start in October. A space-traveling humanoid robot named “Vyommitra”—dressed as a woman—will be propelled into space during the mission’s second phase, according to him.

“Astronauts in the number of one to three will be despatched as part of the manned mission of the Gaganyaan project after these two phases. By 2024, I anticipate this to begin,” Singh remarked.
According to the Union Minister for Science and Technology, Covid-19 caused a delay in Gaganyaan.

Vyommitra was built to perform specific tasks in order to simulate human behaviour in space. To ensure the astronauts’ safe return, Singh pointed out that extensive planning is needed for such a trip. The minister and Vyommitra will do all the tasks that are anticipated of astronauts.

What is the goal of Gaganyaan?

The challenging space project attempts to show that humans are capable of space travel. According to the ISRO website, it will require sending a three-person crew into a 400 km orbit for a three-day mission and safely returning them. The crew will touch down on Indian sea waters when they return.

The project calls for the development of a number of crucial technologies, such as human-rated launch vehicles for transporting humans to space safely, a system that replicates the life support systems found on Earth, and emergency escape supply, among others. According to ISRO, unmanned missions that come before the manned mission will demonstrate the safety and dependability of all systems.

Vyommitra

At the first session of the 2021 conference on “Human Spaceflight and Exploration – Present Challenges and Future Trends,” the female robot Vyommitra was the centre of attention. For the unmanned Gaganyaan mission, the name Vyomamitra—a combination of the Sanskrit words Vyoma (Space) and Mitra (Friend)—was created.
Throughout the voyage, Vyommitra will keep an eye on module parameters, notify you and carry out life support operations, carry out tasks like operating switch panels, and mimic other human duties in space.
