Major Shocker For Sharad Pawar: EC Takes Away NCP From Its Founder, Gives it To Ajit Pawar

Sharad Pawar gets a major shock from the Election Commission of India as the poll body declares its verdict on ownership of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). The Election Commission gave out the name of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) to Ajit Pawar faction. Also, the body has told Sharad Pawar faction to pick up new name for the coming Rajya Sabha polls in Maharashtra. Now Ajit Pawar has the complete rights over the name and election symbol of NCP which was originally co-founded by Sharad Pawar with his partners PA Sangma and Tariq Anwar.

More than 10 hearings over 6 months…

The battle over this name was going on for more than 6 months. During these few months over 10 hearings have been done in the case. The Election Commission of India has provided a one-time option to Sharad Pawar to claim a name for its new political formation and provide three preferences to the Commission. The concession is to be utilised by 3 pm on 7 Feb, 2024. On the other hand, the Ajit Pawar faction is celebrating as the EC ruling has come in their favor.

What does the political world opine on Ajit Pawar getting NCP

On NCP name & symbol matter ruled by EC in favour of Ajit Pawar, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi says, “I am not surprised at all. A man who was charged of corruption of worth Rs 70,000 Crores…today stands shoulder to shoulder with the BJP…Ajit Pawar happens to be the Deputy CM of Maharashtra…It goes against the spirit of Schedule 10 of the Constitution…It is sponsored, planned and executed by the Central Government to try and silence those voices which speak for the people of this country, which speak strongly against the growing dictatorial tendencies of the Government.”

On the matter, Maharashtra leader Anil Deshmukh says, “Today the Election Commission has given Sharad Pawar’s party’s name and symbol to Ajit Pawar. A similar decision was taken in the case of Shiv Sena. NCP was founded by Sharad Pawar. He had been the president of the party for years. The Election Commission’s decision under pressure is the murder of democracy. This is unfortunate.”

There is a certain wave of disappointment in many political leaders who support Sharad Pawar or his ideals. They all are putting up the same point that the party was originally founded by Sharad Pawar and today he has lost the name.

Shiv Sena UBT spokesperson Anand Dubey says, “First the EC said that the Shiv Sena belongs to Eknath Shinde… Now they have said that the NCP belongs to Ajit Pawar… The whole nation knows that NCP was founded by Sharad Pawar in 1999… We already knew this would happen… Sharad Pawar will go to the Supreme Court… The democracy is finished in this country… We have faith in the Supreme Court…”
