Mahatma Gandhi’s 75th Death Anniversary: Why Did Godse Kill Gandhi?

Mahatma Gandhi 75th Death Anniversary: Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi is addressed by names like Mahatma Gandhi and Bapu for his personality and contribution. Mahatma Gandhi was such a leader. His entire existence is a message. Millions of people around the world are his followers.

There are a couple of individuals who disagree with Gandhi ji and believe that Gandhiji’s opinions are misguided. One of these few people was Nathuram Godse.

Today is the 75th birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi. On January 30, 1948, while carrying the baton of “non-violence,” three bullets were fired into Bapu’s chest from a distance of three feet. On January 30, 1948, he was murdered on the grounds of Birla House in Delhi. Numerous novels and stories about Bapu were written during these 75 years. Almost everyone has heard or read that Bapu’s final words, which he uttered as soon as the bullet struck him, were “Hai Ram.” The Raj Ghat in Delhi is the home to Mahatma Gandhi’s Samadhi. ‘Hai Ram’ is written on his tomb.

He was on his way to Prathanasanha in Delhi, the capital of India when he was killed. Nathu Ram Godse, 38, was a member of the right-wing Hindu Mahasabha. Gandhiji was accused by this group of siding with Muslims while betraying Hindus by having a soft spot for Pakistan. They also held Gandhiji accountable for the bloodshed and killings that occurred during the partition. In August 1948, Pakistan won its independence from India.

The trial court gave Godse a death sentence one year after Gandhiji was murdered. The sentence was affirmed according to the High Court’s ruling. Nathuram Godse was executed by hanging in November 1949.

Did you know that Godse once saw Gandhi as his guru? Unfortunately, some information to that effect has surfaced. But with time, this love for Gandhi slowly gave way to hate. Nathuram Godse was a devout Hindu who was born on May 19, 1910, into a Brahmin family in Baramati, Maharashtra, not far from Pune. Nathuram’s thoughts of hatred toward Gandhi were originally out when Godse was first imprisoned as a result of Gandhi’s satyagraha activity.
