Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said that the state will play a major role in building a Developed India—Viksit Bharat—by 2047. He promised that the state government is dedicated to this mission.
Shinde announced that Maharashtra aims to become a $1 trillion economy by 2027, a $2.5 trillion economy by 2037, and a $6 trillion economy by 2047. He pledged that the state government will work hard to turn Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision into reality. Making Maharashtra a global economic powerhouse and Mumbai a global Fintech hub. He shared this vision during the NITI Aayog Governing Council meeting in Delhi.
He stated that the state government has designed policies and initiatives to support the poor, women, youth, and farmers, aligning with the central government’s objectives. The government has introduced several schemes for these groups in the annual budget.
Shinde highlighted that Maharashtra is a significant contributor to the national economy due to its strong industrial and service sectors. The state leads in attracting foreign direct investment.
In the last two years, Maharashtra has signed investment agreements worth Rs 5 lakh crore at the World Economic Forum, which will create 3 lakh jobs. The state government is focusing on district-level strategies to ensure balanced and inclusive economic development. Inspired by the Prime Minister Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana, Maharashtra has launched the Namo Shetkari Maha Samman Nidhi Yojana, providing Rs 6,000 in annual financial aid to each farmer. Maharashtra is the only state offering crop insurance for just one rupee, with nearly 1.70 crore farmers receiving Rs 7,292 crore under this scheme.
The Chief Minister said the state government aims to double farmers’ incomes through the Agriculture Food Export Policy. The government will set up onion banks using nuclear energy to store 10 lakh tonnes of onions.
Maharashtra is the first state to establish a Ministry of Disability to support the development of disabled individuals and the first to introduce a transgender policy.
Shinde mentioned that the government has started a skill training program to make youth aged 18 to 35 more employable. Under the Mukhyamantri Karya Prashikshan Yojana, the government will offer apprenticeships with stipends up to Rs 10,000.
The government aims to create capable youth by 2047 and promote ‘Able India’. To enhance India’s performance in sports, the government has launched the ‘Mission Lakshyavedh Yojana.’
The government has introduced schemes to make women self-reliant and financially empowered and is proposing free higher education for girls.
Shinde said the government will redevelop old and dilapidated buildings in Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). And other areas through cluster development schemes, constructing nearly two lakh homes.
The govt has also begun redeveloping Dharavi. Asia’s largest slum, to improve residents’ living standards.
The government is building a 390 km metro rail network in the MMR with an investment of over Rs 1.25 lakh crore, and similar metro projects are underway in Pune and Nagpur.
Eknath Shinde noted that the government is developing the Konkan Coastal Road and the Konkan Green Field Expressway, which will significantly benefit the region. They will also construct a 5,000 km access control grid for seamless connectivity.
He thanked the Centre for approving the Rs 76,000 crore Vadhavan greenfield port project in Palghar district. Which will enhance the state’s economic growth.
