Maharashtra Introduces Stricter Laws Following Tragic Worli Hit-and-Run

In response to the escalating hit-and-run incidents in Maharashtra, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde declared on Monday a firm stance against injustice, asserting that no one, regardless of wealth, influence, or political affiliation, would be immune under his administration. Following a tragic incident in Worli where a BMW collided with a scooter, resulting in the death of a woman, Shinde expressed zero tolerance for such occurrences.

In a social media post, Shinde affirmed, “As long as I am Chief Minister, there will be no immunity for anyone—be they affluent, influential, or connected to bureaucrats or ministers of any party. My administration unequivocally stands with victims and their families. We are committed to ensuring a safer Maharashtra for all.”

Expressing deep concern over the surge in hit-and-run cases, Shinde emphasized the misuse of power and influence to manipulate justice, which he deemed unacceptable. He directed the State Police Department to handle these cases rigorously and ensure justice prevails. Additionally, Shinde announced the implementation of stricter laws and harsher penalties for those involved in hit-and-run incidents.

Shinde’s statement follows the arrest of his party’s deputy leader, Rajesh Shah, in connection with the Worli incident, where the vehicle involved allegedly belonged to his son, Mihir Shah. Rajrishi Bidawat, Rajesh Shah’s driver present during the accident, has also been detained, while Mihir Shah remains at large, prompting police to issue a lookout notice for him.
