On Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi commemorated the death anniversary of Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar, observing Mahaparinirvan Diwas by honouring his exceptional contributions to India’s constitutional framework and social equality.
Taking to X, PM Modi posted, “Remembering Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar on Mahaparinirvan Diwas. His visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to justice, equality and constitutionalism continue to guide our national journey. He inspired generations to uphold human dignity and strengthen democratic values.”
“May his ideals keep lighting our path as we work towards building a Viksit Bharat,” the post further read.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah also paid tribute on social media, noting that Dr BR Ambedkar viewed education as the driving force of social transformation and championed the rights of workers, farmers and the marginalised.
He said Ambedkar upheld the highest principles of social justice by laying the foundations of a strong India rooted in equality and fraternity.
Shah further added that Ambedkar’s legacy, as profound as the ocean and as towering as the Himalayas, continues to guide the nation, and the country bows in gratitude on his Mahaparinirvan Diwas.
Dr Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar, widely known as Babasaheb, was a distinguished jurist, economist and social reformer.
As the principal architect of the Indian Constitution, he spent his life opposing caste-based discrimination and championing the rights of Dalits and other disadvantaged groups.
Dr Ambedkar passed away on 6 December 1956. In recognition of his lifelong service, he was awarded the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honour, in 1990. His birth anniversary on 14 April is, however, celebrated nationwide as Ambedkar Jayanti.
