As preparations ramp up for Mahakumbh 2025, officials have assured that the power system will be robust and reliable throughout the event. The fair administration, in close coordination with the electricity department, has undertaken extensive measures to ensure there will be no electricity shortages across the entire fair area.
To meet the anticipated demand, two new substations are under construction. The 132/33 kV transmission substation in the Gangapar Jhunsi area will provide uninterrupted power to both the fair and surrounding urban and rural areas, benefiting a population of approximately 250,000.

Additionally, a new substation at New Bailey will serve about 100,000 residents in neighborhoods such as Bailey, Myorabad, Katra, and Rajapur.
In an effort to improve overall service, the capacity of the Phaphamau substation is being increased, which will enhance power supply to around 50,000 residents of Phaphamau and Shantipuram. Furthermore, twelve interlink lines are being constructed to connect major 33/11 kV sub-centers across the city, ensuring reliable electricity supply to areas like Civil Lines, Bairhana, Rambagh, and Prayagraj Junction.
To enhance safety and improve aesthetics, high-tension (HT) and low-tension (LT) lines along key roads, including Airport Road, Baghambari Road, and Peshwai Marg, have been placed underground. This effort not only beautifies the areas but also prevents potential accidents.
Additionally, obstructing power lines during Akharas processions have been removed and relocated underground.
To maintain a consistent power supply during the event, 33 kV Ring Main Units (RMUs) are being installed at various sub-centers, including Awas Vikas and Daraganj. These units will allow for rapid restoration of power within 10 to 15 seconds in the event of any faults.
Electricity lines in the parking and parade areas have also been laid underground to prevent accidents during the fair. Designer poles are being installed in the parade area, ensuring both lighting and aesthetic appeal.
To facilitate smooth movement for devotees, electricity lines in front of Prayagraj Junction and Prayag station have been placed underground, eliminating obstacles and maintaining a safe route during the fair.
With these extensive preparations, authorities are confident that the power system will meet the demands of Mahakumbh 2025, providing a safe and enjoyable experience for all attendees.
