Prayagraj Railway has decided to extend the single-direction movement plan for crowd management at Prayagraj Junction to accommodate the increasing influx of devotees at the ongoing Mahakumbh festival.
With over 42 crore pilgrims having bathed in the Triveni Sangam since the start of the event, the railway station aims to ensure smooth and safe travel for all passengers.
The railway authorities have announced that they will allow entry to Prayagraj Junction only from the City Side via Platform No. 1, and route exits through the Civil Lines side, using Platforms 6 and 10.
Authorities have extended the plan, initially implemented to manage the crowd during the Amrit Snan festivals, and it will remain in effect until further notice.
Amit Singh, Railway Division PRO, emphasized that this measure is essential to prevent congestion and ensure a streamlined flow of passengers.
To enhance the travel experience for the rising number of devotees, the railway has introduced several new arrangements. The authorities will now direct passengers to designated shelter areas based on their travel destinations.
The shelters equip temporary ticket counters, toilets, and waiting areas to accommodate the large number of pilgrims.
Additionally, passengers holding reserved tickets will be granted access to the station through Gate No 5. To further improve crowd control, authorities will issue color-coded tickets to monitor and manage the flow of passengers more efficiently.
In light of the ongoing surge in visitors, the railway authorities have urged passengers to arrive well in advance of their scheduled train departures.
The authorities have requested local transport services, including taxis, auto-rickshaws, and e-rickshaws, to follow the single-direction movement plan to prevent traffic congestion and ensure smooth transit for all passengers.
With these extended measures in place, Prayagraj Railway is working in close collaboration with local police and transport drivers to ensure the safety and convenience of the millions of pilgrims visiting the city for Mahakumbh 2025.
