Maha Kumbh 2025: Uttar Pradesh Enhances Security With Face Recognition Cameras

In an initiative aimed at safeguarding the millions of devotees likely to attend Maha Kumbh 2025, the Uttar Pradesh government is rolling out advanced security measures at railway stations and event venues.

With estimates suggesting that around 100 million pilgrims will travel to Prayagraj for this massive religious gathering, authorities are taking significant steps to bolster safety protocols.

For the first time, the Prayagraj Railway Division will integrate cutting-edge face recognition (FR) cameras with existing CCTV systems at railway stations.

These AI-driven cameras are designed to enhance security by monitoring crowds and swiftly identifying potential threats, thereby ensuring a safer environment for attendees.

Amit Singh, the Public Relations Officer for the Prayagraj Railway Division, remarked, “Our foremost priority is to create a secure atmosphere for all visitors during the Maha Kumbh. The introduction of AI-based face recognition technology represents a significant advancement in our security framework. These cameras will help us swiftly identify individuals involved in suspicious behavior, allowing for timely intervention.”

The security strategy encompasses the installation of approximately 650 CCTV cameras and 100 face recognition units throughout Prayagraj’s railway infrastructure.

This comprehensive surveillance network will monitor vital areas, including platforms, waiting areas, and access points across all nine railway stations in the city.

“By implementing this extensive surveillance system, we aim to prevent any untoward incidents and ensure that devotees can focus on their spiritual journey,” Singh further added.

The full security setup is likely to be operational by the end of December, ensuring all systems are in place well before the commencement of the Maha Kumbh festivities in January.
