Maha Assembly Polls May Take Place In November: CM Shinde Signals

Chief Minister Eknath Shinde revealed that the Maha Assembly polls are likely to be held in November. Speaking at a public function on Tuesday night, Shinde hinted at the timing for the first time, stating, “There are elections in two months, in November.”

Shinde, who will lead the MahaYuti alliance, urged party cadres and the public to support Shiv Sena legislator Dilip Lande in the Chandivali constituency. He emphasized the need to stand firmly with Lande and ensure his victory with a large majority.

The announcement follows a statement from NCP (Sharad Pawar faction) chief Sharad Pawar, who also suggested that the election process may conclude by mid-November, as the current Assembly’s tenure ends on November 26, 2024.

Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar recently indicated that the Maha Assembly polls would take place post-Diwali, likely between late October and early November. Meanwhile, the MahaYuti government has been busy promoting welfare and development schemes, such as the Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana, as part of its strategy to counteract anti-incumbency sentiment.

Within the alliance, the BJP is eyeing around 150-160 seats, leaving the remaining 128 seats for Shiv Sena, NCP, and other allied parties. BJP’s state in-charge, Union Minister Bhupendra Yadav, has already launched poll preparations, focusing on reaching out to one lakh booths across Maharashtra.

On the opposition front, Maha Vikas Aghadi leaders, including Sharad Pawar, Uddhav Thackeray, and Congress state chief Nana Patole, are planning to finalize their seat-sharing arrangements soon. Pawar has suggested meetings between September 7 and 9 to discuss the strategy and potentially include Left parties in the alliance.
