Bhopal witnessed a significant environmental initiative on Saturday as Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav inaugurated the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign, aiming to bolster efforts towards environmental conservation in the state.
Accompanied by state BJP head VD Sharma, CM Yadav ceremoniously planted a sapling at Jamburi Maidan, underscoring the symbolic importance by carrying a photograph of his mother during the planting ceremony.
CM Yadav stated, “This campaign marks our commitment to environmental protection. The pledge of Bhopal residents to plant 12 lakh saplings will set a precedent for environmental stewardship, inspiring other cities to follow suit.”
He emphasized the campaign’s potential as a milestone in environmental sustainability.
Highlighting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s initiation of the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign, CM Yadav urged widespread participation across Madhya Pradesh, rallying citizens to actively contribute towards the state’s goal of planting approximately 5.5 crore saplings by 15 July.
The initiative holds personal resonance within the state’s leadership, with former Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, now Union Minister, previously setting a tradition of daily sapling plantations at Shyamala Hills during his tenure.
“While in Bhopal, planting a sapling daily was a routine for me, symbolizing our collective responsibility towards the environment. This tradition has now evolved into a statewide commitment under ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’,” added CM Yadav, reflecting on the legacy of environmental stewardship established by his predecessor.
