PM Narendra Modi on Saturday praised India’s armed forces and underlined the role of indigenous weapons during Operation Sindoor.
Addressing large gatherings in Mizoram’s capital, Aizawl and Manipur’s capital, Imphal, the PM said that ‘Made-in-India’ weapons significantly strengthened the nation’s defence.
In Aizawl, PM Modi declared that Indian soldiers not only defeated terrorists during Operation Sindoor but also sent a strong message to the world about India’s military power.
“The whole nation felt pride in the bravery of our soldiers. Made-in-India weapons played a decisive role in protecting the country,” he said.
The Prime Minister emphasised that strengthening India’s manufacturing sector and economy is crucial for national security.
At the historic Kangla Fort in Imphal, PM Modi saluted the contribution of Manipur’s sons and daughters in safeguarding the nation. He paid tribute to Shaheed Deepak Chingkham, who laid down his life during Operation Sindoor.
Serving with the 7th Battalion of the BSF, Chingkham, 25, sustained fatal injuries in unprovoked cross-border firing in the RS Pura sector of Jammu on May 10. He succumbed to his injuries the following day.
PM Modi affirmed that Deepak Chingkham’s sacrifice would always be remembered. He also praised Squadron Leader Rizwan Malik, another valiant soldier from Manipur, for his role in the operation.
Both Chingkham and Malik received the Vir Chakra on the eve of Independence Day for their exceptional service.
The Manipur government announced a cash award of ₹10 lakh each to Squadron Leader Malik and the family of Shaheed Chingkham, both from Imphal East district.
