On Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi joined citizens across the country in celebrating Lucknow’s inclusion in the UNESCO Creative Cities Network under the category of Gastronomy, marking a proud global acknowledgement of India’s cultural richness.
Sharing his message on the social media platform, the Prime Minister described Lucknow as a city where a lively cultural spirit and exceptional culinary traditions go hand in hand.
He invited food lovers worldwide to visit and experience the city’s renowned flavours and hospitality.
According to the Prime Minister, UNESCO’s recognition shines a spotlight on one of Lucknow’s defining characteristics, its cuisine, which has long represented the artistry and diversity of Indian food culture.
The Prime Minister’s remarks came in response to a post by Union Minister for Culture and Tourism Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, who announced the international recognition.
In his post, PM Modi posted, “Lucknow is synonymous with a vibrant culture, at the core of which is a great culinary culture. I am glad that UNESCO has recognised this aspect of Lucknow and I call upon people from around the world to visit Lucknow and discover its uniqueness.”
Earlier, Shekhawat posted on a social media platform announcing that Lucknow had received a new international recognition.
Taking to X, he posted, “Lucknow has been designated as a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy, a recognition of its distinguished culinary heritage and invaluable contribution to India’s rich gastronomic traditions.”
“This honour enhances Lucknow’s global stature, positioning it as a premier destination for food and culture, and opens new avenues for tourism promotion, culture-led economic growth, heritage conservation, and international collaboration through the UNESCO Creative Cities Network,” the post further added.
In addition, Shekhawat credited the leadership of the Prime Minister for this growing international appreciation of India’s traditions.
“Guided by the visionary leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji, India’s timeless traditions, culture, and values continue to attain unprecedented recognition and respect on the global stage,” he noted.
