Om Birla, Speaker of the Lok Sabha, on Friday participated in the self-enumeration process for Census 2027 at his Delhi residence. He encouraged citizens to submit their household data online and support national development.
In a message shared on X, Lok Sabha Speaker confirmed the commencement of the census’s first phase and stated that he had completed his registration. He described the initiative as a significant shift towards a digital and citizen-driven system.
Om Birla emphasised that the process is secure, precise, and user-friendly. Citizens can now independently record their household details without relying on traditional methods.
Lok Sabha Speaker urged the public to actively engage in the exercise. He encouraged individuals to input accurate information and motivate others to participate. He highlighted that collective participation would contribute to a stronger and more prosperous nation.
The self-enumeration schedule varies across states and Union Territories. Citizens can access the official portal to complete the process at their convenience.
Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah also completed their registrations.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh joined the initiative on Friday and appealed for widespread participation.
Census 2027 marks India’s first fully digital population count, replacing the paper-based system followed for over 150 years. The exercise is being conducted under the Census Act, 1948.
The process will unfold in two phases. The first phase, House Listing and Housing Census, gathers information on housing conditions, amenities, and assets. Participants must respond to 33 notified questions.
The initiative aims to strengthen data accuracy and support policy planning for a ‘Viksit Bharat’.
