The Centre on Sunday said there has been no disruption in LPG availability across the country, with more than 51 lakh domestic cylinders delivered in a single day on April 4 and no reports of dry-out at gas agencies.
According to the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, online LPG bookings have surged to 95 per cent, reflecting a strong shift towards digital platforms.
To curb diversion at the distributor level, Delivery Authentication Code-based deliveries have increased to 90 per cent from 53 per cent in February, before supply disruptions linked to the Iran war. Consumers have been advised to rely on digital booking methods and avoid visiting distributors unless necessary.
The sale of 5 kg LPG cylinders crossed 90,000 units on Saturday, taking the total to around 6.6 lakh since March 23. These cylinders are available at nearby distributorships and can be purchased with any valid ID proof without requiring address verification.
To ease pressure on LPG demand, households have been encouraged to use alternative fuels such as PNG, induction, and electric cooktops. The government has also made kerosene and coal available as additional options.
PNG expansion has accelerated, with 3.6 lakh new connections activated and over 3.9 lakh registrations recorded since March. States have been asked to support the rollout of new PNG connections for both domestic and commercial users.
Refineries are operating at high capacity with sufficient crude inventories, while stocks of petrol and diesel remain adequate. Domestic LPG production has been ramped up to meet rising demand.
The government has implemented several measures, including extending LPG booking intervals and prioritising supply to households, hospitals, and educational institutions. States have been directed to prevent hoarding, diversion, and misinformation while ensuring uninterrupted distribution.
Authorities have also cautioned citizens against panic buying and urged them to depend only on official sources for updates.
