Legal Action Taken Against Shiv Sena MP For Instructing Nanded Hospital Dean To Clean Toilet

In a startling turn of events, Shiv Sena MP Hemant Patil found himself embroiled in controversy as police registered an FIR against him following an incident at a government hospital in Nanded, Maharashtra. This incident occurred in the wake of a tragic situation where 31 patients, including infants, lost their lives within a span of 48 hours from September 30 to October 2.

The case against Hemant Patil was filed based on a complaint made by the acting dean of the hospital, SR Wakode. The charges include obstructing a public servant from performing his duties and defamation.

Amidst public outrage over the string of deaths, Hemant Patil, who represents Hingoli in Parliament, visited the Dr. Shankarrao Chavan Government Medical College and Hospital to assess the situation. A viral video captured the moment when Patil handed a broom to Dean Wakode, instructing him to clean a dirty toilet and urinals within the hospital premises.

Expressing his dismay at the conditions, Patil commented, “The government spends crores, but I am pained to see the situation here. The toilets have not been cleaned for months. The toilets in the hospital wards are locked. No water is available in the toilets.” Patil, a member of the Shiv Sena led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, shared his concerns with a news channel.

Following Dean Wakode’s complaint, an FIR was registered against Hemant Patil and several others under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including section 353 (assault or criminal force to deter a public servant from the discharge of his duty), 500 (defamation), and 506 (criminal intimidation). Additionally, provisions of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act were invoked.

The FIR details the incident, stating that while Dean Wakode was preparing for a minister’s inspection tour, Hemant Patil arrived at the dean’s office around 12:30 pm on Tuesday. Patil requested to see the hospital’s toilet, and upon finding it in a deplorable state, he directed Dean Wakode to clean it, as per the complaint.

A video recording of this incident subsequently went viral, leading to allegations of defamation against Dean Wakode. Later, Patil compelled Dean Wakode to clean a toilet in ward no. 6 of the hospital, which reportedly caused an increase in the dean’s blood pressure, as mentioned in the complaint.

This incident has sparked further discussions on the conditions within government hospitals and the need for improved healthcare infrastructure and sanitation.
