Key Legislative Developments In Parliament: Multiple Bills & Statements To Be Discussed

Several important legislative discussions are set to take place in Parliament on Wednesday, with Union Ministers presenting key bills and making significant statements.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah will table The Disaster Management (Amendment) Bill, 2024 in the Lok Sabha. The Bill seeks to amend the Disaster Management Act, 2005, aiming to clarify roles and strengthen the powers of authorities at both national and state levels.

Originally introduced in the Lok Sabha on 1 August, the Bill seeks to enhance disaster management mechanisms across India, building on the foundational frameworks for prevention and mitigation established by the Act.

In the Rajya Sabha, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will make a statement on the recent developments in India-China relations.

Following a similar statement made in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday, Jaishankar will highlight the progress in bilateral ties, particularly following a successful disengagement agreement along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh.

He will emphasize the gradual improvement in relations since 2020, when tensions escalated due to Chinese actions. Jaishankar stressed that the normalization of ties depends on mutual respect and sensitivity.

Ashwini Vaishnaw To Move Railways (Amendment) Bill, 2024 In Parliament

Additionally, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw will move The Railways (Amendment) Bill, 2024, which seeks to amend the Railways Act, 1989.

One of the major provisions of the Bill is the integration of the Indian Railway Board Act, 1905, into the Railways Act, aiming to simplify the legal framework governing Indian Railways.

Union Minister Rao Inderjit Singh will also address the Standing Committee on Finance, and Union Ministers Anurag Singh Thakur and Manna Lal Rawat will present reports from the Standing Committee on Coal, Mines, and Steel.

Moreover, Union Minister Piyush Goyal will introduce The Boilers Bill, 2024, which aims to regulate the safety of boilers in India.

The Bill focuses on ensuring the safe operation of steam boilers, addressing the risk of explosions, and establishing uniform procedures for registration and inspection during the manufacture and use of boilers.
