A special program was organized today, July 19, in Delhi to commemorate the sixth death anniversary of poet, lyricist, and writer Gopal Das ‘Neeraj’. The event took place at 6:30 PM at the Press Club of India on Raisena Road, Delhi.
Mahakavi Gopaldas Neeraj Foundation Trust with the Hindi Academy organised ‘Neeraj Saman Samaroh’ organised in the Press Club. CMD Upendrra Rai serving as patron of the Mahakavi Gopaldas Neeraj Foundation Trust. Rai has organized programs in memory of the great poet Gopal Das Neeraj in the past as well. Last year, during the ‘Kavyanjali Saman’ function, he awarded actor Annu Kapoor with the Gopal Das Neeraj Award-2023.
Renowned lyricist Javed Akhtar recieved the Gopal Das Neeraj Award 2024.
Speaking about today’s event, Upendrra Rai, CMD of Bharat Express, stated that the tradition of organizing this program for the past six years. In memory of Neerajji began on February 11, 2010, when Neeraj passed away in Indore city.
He recounted his first meeting with Das ji. Where they shared the stage in a Kavi Sammelan. Over time, he developed a close bond with Neerajji’s entire family, fostering a familial relationship characterized by care and mutual support.
Upendrra Rai highlighted Neerajji’s profound qualities, recalling an incident where Neerajji, known for his insightful nature, correctly diagnosed a friend’s misdiagnosed cancer. Neerajji insisted on a re-evaluation, which thankfully turned out negative, sparing his friend unnecessary anguish.
Rai praised Javed Akhtar upon receiving the honor. Emphasizing his admiration for Akhtar’s personality and noting him as one of the few individuals he deeply respects. Alongside figures like Osho, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, and Kumar Vishwas. He expressed gratitude to all participants for their presence and support.
