Karnataka DGP K Ramachandra Rao Suspended Over Alleged Inappropriate Videos

Karnataka’s Director General of Police (DGP) K Ramachandra Rao has been suspended by the Congress-led state government after alleged videos surfaced showing him engaging in inappropriate behaviour inside his office.

Additionally, the state government has directed the senior IPS officer to remain at the state headquarters and barred him from leaving without prior permission while the inquiry proceeds.

According to the official order, the videos received widespread coverage across news channels and social media platforms.

The government stated that the conduct displayed in the clips appeared unbecoming of a government servant and caused embarrassment to the administration.

Officials further said the actions amounted to a violation of Rule 3 of the All India Services (Conduct) Rules, 1968.

Consequently, the government placed Rao under immediate suspension under Rule 3(1)(a) of the All India Service (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1969.

Details of Alleged Videos

The purported videos reportedly show Rao inside his official chamber while in uniform, engaging in objectionable conduct with a woman.

In one clip, he is seen kissing her, while another shows him in a suit performing similar acts in front of the Indian flag and the Police Department’s emblem.

As a result, the clips spread rapidly online and triggered widespread concern over the conduct of a senior police official.

In response, Rao dismissed the allegations and claimed that someone manipulated the videos.

Speaking to reporters in Bengaluru, he said no such incident had occurred and added that he would consult his lawyer before deciding his next course of action.

Previously, the government had placed Rao on compulsory leave in March 2025 in connection with a gold smuggling case involving jailed actress Ranya Rao. He returned to service recently.

Fresh allegations suggest that he misused his official status to bypass security protocols alongside the actress.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah reiterated that no officer stands above the law. He confirmed that the government would take disciplinary action if required.

He also assured that a formal inquiry would examine the matter thoroughly.

Overall, the suspension reflects the state government’s emphasis on accountability and the need to uphold public trust in senior law enforcement positions.

The inquiry will likely determine the authenticity of the videos and guide further action.
