Kanpur Dehat: On Monday, a heart-wrenching case pertaining to a mother and daughter came to light who were burnt alive during an anti-encroachment drive in the district. News spread like wildfire, after which hundreds of villagers resorted to brick-batting and forced the teams to beat a hasty retreat.
An FIR has been registered on charges of murder, attempt to murder apart from mischief by killing or maiming cattle, and mischief by fire with intent to destroy the house. Four teams of police were formed to look into the investigations into the case, while two accused have been arrested.
They said sub-divisional magistrate (Maitha) Gyaneshwar Prasad went to Madauli village of Maitha tehsil area in the morning with police and revenue department employees to remove encroachments from gram samaj land after a complaint of encroachment by Krishna Gopal, husband of the deceased woman. Krishna Gopal was badly injured while saving his daughter and wife.
The injured Krishna Gopal Dixit, who lost his wife and daughter at the same time, could not attend the funeral procession from Kanpur Dehat, but reached Bithoor Ghat directly from Hallet Hospital in Kanpur and attended the last rites.
Talking to Bharat Express, Krishna Gopal Dixit said that the culprits should be hanged by the government because if District Magistrate wanted, this incident would not have happened. Government should also take action against them because it is not suicide but murder. He demanded capital punishment against the accused.
The family of the two deceased, cremated the bodies on Wednesday after UP Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak assured action against accused officials.
“The deputy CM has assured us that our demands will be met. He said rupees one crore and a government job, residential quarter and a land strip will be given to each of us (2 brothers) and lifetime pension for my father,” said the deceased’s son after conducting cremation.
