Justice Sanjay Kumar Recuses Himself From Hearing Bail Plea Of Businessman Abhishek Boinpally

On Tuesday, Justice Sanjay Kumar of the Supreme Court stepped aside from hearing the bail application of Hyderabad-based businessman Abhishek Boinpally, who faces allegations in a money laundering case tied to the Delhi excise policy scam.

During the proceedings, Justice Sanjiv Khanna, leading the two-judge bench, announced that a different bench would handle the case for future hearings.

He scheduled the bail plea for review during the week of August 5 and extended the interim relief granted to Boinpally.

The Supreme Court had initially granted interim bail to Boinpally on 20 March for five weeks, citing his wife’s ill health.

This interim relief has been renewed multiple times since then.

As part of his bail conditions, Boinpally must surrender his passport and limit his movements to the National Capital Region (NCR), except for necessary travel to Hyderabad.

The court also instructed him to provide his mobile number to Enforcement Directorate officials to ensure ongoing communication.

Boinpally has been in custody since October 2022 and approached the Supreme Court after the Delhi High Court dismissed his bail application in July 2023.

Notably, Justice Sanjay Kumar had also recused himself last week from hearing the bail petitions of senior AAP leader Manish Sisodia related to the liquor policy case.
