Union Minister and BJP President JP Nadda on Saturday hit back at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for alleging “match-fixing” in the Maharashtra Assembly elections. He called Gandhi’s article a “blueprint for manufacturing fake narratives.”
Rahul Gandhi’s opinion piece appeared in a national daily and sparked political uproar. Opposition parties claimed it revealed large-scale manipulation in the 2024 Maharashtra Assembly elections. They also criticised the Election Commission’s silence on questions raised by the opposition.
Gandhi alleged the BJP orchestrated a massive rigging plan. He called it a “systematic assault on democracy.” He repeated allegations he had earlier made in Parliament and at a press conference. Gandhi claimed the Maharashtra polls saw extraordinary malpractice.
Nadda responded on social media platform X. “Rahul Gandhi’s latest article is a blueprint for manufacturing fake narratives, owing to his sadness and desperation of losing election after election,” he posted.
He shared a news article claiming to expose the Congress leader’s “lies” about the Maharashtra Assembly elections. Nadda wrote: “Here’s how he does it — Step 1: Loses elections due to antics. S 2: Cries rigging. 3: Ignores facts. 4: Defames institutions. 5: Seeks headlines.”
Nadda accused Gandhi of misleading the public with false claims.
In his article, Gandhi alleged the BJP used multiple tactics to manipulate the Maharashtra polls. He claimed tampering in appointing Election Commission members, inflated voter lists, and lack of scrutiny of discrepancies.
He warned that the same strategy could affect the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections.
Nadda dismissed the charges as baseless. “Despite being exposed time and again, he shamelessly keeps peddling lies. He does this because a defeat in Bihar is certain. Democracy doesn’t need drama. It needs truth,” the BJP chief said.
