JMM-Congress Alliance To Contest 70 Seats In Jharkhand, 11 For RJD And Left Parties

Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), Congress, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), and Left parties will contest the upcoming Assembly elections in a united front. Chief Minister and JMM leader Hemant Soren announced the alliance on Saturday.

Seat Allocation Still Under Discussion

The JMM and Congress will jointly contest 70 out of the 81 seats, with the remaining 11 seats going to the RJD and Left. The division of the 70 seats between JMM and Congress remains undecided. Discussions with alliance partners will continue to finalize the seat-sharing details.

Talks are also ongoing regarding the allocation for RJD and Left parties. An official announcement on seat distribution will follow soon. Notably, the Left parties, absent in the 2019 alliance, will join the coalition this time.

Congress, RJD Leaders to Finalize Details

Congress’ Jharkhand in-charge Ghulam Ahmed Mir, Minister Dr. Rameshwar Oraon, and JMM MLA Sudivya Kumar Sonu attended the press conference. Soren will meet Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav to finalize seat-sharing details.

In 2019, JMM contested 43 seats, Congress 31, and RJD 7. For 2024, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has declared its seat-sharing, with BJP contesting 68 seats, AJSU 10, and JD-U 2.

The two-phase elections will be held on November 13 and 20. The vote count is set for November 23.
