Breaking new ground for Central Universities, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) ranks in the 401-500 band of the World University Rankings 2026.

Jamia Millia Islamia is emerging as the top Central University in India and third nationwide among global competitors.

Among Indian institutions, only the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore and the Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences, Chennai, ranked higher.

JMI’s entry into this international bracket underscores its growing reputation for excellence in teaching, research and global collaboration.

Speaking about the milestone, Vice Chancellor Prof Mazhar Asif and Registrar Prof  Md  Mahtab Alam Rizvi congratulated the entire university community.

They praised the contributions of faculty, students, researchers, alumni and non-teaching staff.

Meanwhile, highlighting the strategic efforts of the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC).

They added that JMI has focused on interdisciplinary teaching, cutting-edge research, and international engagement.

The leaders expressed confidence that the university could break into the top 200 band in the near future.

Prof Asif and Prof Rizvi also emphasised ongoing efforts in faculty development, research training and infrastructure enhancement.

They cited JMI’s performance in the NIRF India Rankings 2025 as evidence of consistent progress and commitment to high-quality education.

The World University Rankings assess institutions using 18 performance indicators, including teaching quality, research environment, innovation and global impact.

With this ranking, JMI has firmly established itself as a leading Central University.

It continues to combine academic rigour, research innovation, and a global outlook.

Hence, the JMI is setting an example for other universities in India.
