In a successful operation on Friday, security forces killed two terrorists in Sopore, Baramulla district, after an intense gunfight.
The encounter occurred after security forces launched a joint operation based on specific intelligence regarding the presence of terrorists in the area.
Kashmir Zone Police took to X, stating that security forces neutralized two terrorists in the Sopore encounter. They are in the process of confirming the terrorists’ identities and affiliations. Additionally, they recovered incriminating materials, arms, and ammunition during the operation.
The operation began on Thursday evening after the forces observed suspicious activity in Panipora, a village in Sopore.
According to the police, a search operation led to an exchange of fire with the terrorists, who opened fire indiscriminately when challenged by the troops.
The Army and police retaliated effectively, leading to the elimination of both militants.
Earlier, the Chinar Corps of the Indian Army posted, “On 07 Nov 24, based on specific intelligence regarding presence of terrorists, a joint Operation launched by the #IndianArmy & @JmuKmrPolice in Panipura, Sopore, #Baramulla. Suspicious activity was observed by vigilant troops and on being challenged terrorists opened indiscriminate fire. Own troops effectively retaliated. Operation is in progress.”
The encounter in Sopore is part of a recent surge in terrorist activity in Jammu and Kashmir, with multiple encounters reported in the region.
On Wednesday, security forces engaged in another firefight with terrorists in the Margi area of Kupwara.
On the same day, security forces killed one terrorist in Bandipora, continuing the wave of confrontations between militants and the forces.
In a separate operation on Tuesday, a joint team of the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force) launched an operation in Bandipora following a terrorist attack.
Security forces apprehended one terrorist associate, Ashiq Hussain Wani, a resident of Tujar Shareef in Sopore, during the operation.
The region has been on high alert after a series of violent incidents, including a grenade attack on 3 November that injured 12 people in Srinagar.
Just days earlier, on 2 November, security forces killed two terrorists in an encounter in Anantnag, and on 29 October, three terrorists were neutralised in a major operation following an Army convoy attack in Akhnoor.
With the recent uptick in violence, security forces in Jammu and Kashmir have ramped up their counter-terrorism efforts, launching targeted operations to dismantle militant networks in the region.
