Jhunjhunu Electrocution Tragedy: PM Modi Announces Rs 2 Lakh Aid For Each Victim’s Family

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday expressed grief over the deaths of eight labourers who were electrocuted at a road construction site in Rajasthan’s Jhunjhunu district and announced financial assistance for the families of the deceased and those injured in the incident.

In a post shared by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) on X, PM Modi said he was saddened by the loss of lives and extended his condolences to the bereaved families. He further wished the injured a speedy recovery.

The post announced an ex-gratia payment of ₹2 lakh from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) to the next of kin of each deceased worker, while those injured would receive ₹50,000.

According to police, the incident occurred when a machine used for mixing gravel during road construction came into contact with an overhead high-tension electricity line.

The current spread through the machinery, electrocuting workers at the site and leaving several others with burn injuries.

Udaipurwati SHO Rampal confirmed the incident and said the injured were taken to hospital for treatment.

The deaths triggered protests, with villagers demanding accountability for alleged safety lapses at the construction site.

Police and officials reached the spot as further details about the victims and injured workers were awaited.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma expressed his condolences. He directed officials to ensure proper medical treatment for the injured and provide immediate assistance to affected families. He further ordered an investigation into the incident.

Former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot mourned the deaths. He called for a thorough investigation into the accident. He further urged officials to establish the circumstances and fix responsibility.
