Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren victim of conspiracy against tribals: Odisha JMM chief

Anjali Soren, the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) chief of Odisha, hinted at the potential for Kalpana Soren, her brother Hemant Soren’s wife, to assume the role of Jharkhand’s Chief Minister amid perceived conspiracies against her brother. Anjali Soren expressed concerns about a supposed conspiracy targeting Hemant Soren, attributing it to wider injustices faced by tribals.

Addressing the situation, Anjali Soren emphasized the continued plight of tribal communities even after India gained independence from British rule. She suggested that the BJP and other parties might be opposed to a tribal Chief Minister due to concerns about preserving tribal properties, hinting at a conspiracy.

When asked directly about the prospect of Kalpana assuming the CM position from her husband, Anjali Soren stated, “We do not currently have such intentions. Nevertheless, I cannot dismiss this possibility.”

Despite Hemant Soren rejecting the idea of his wife taking over as Jharkhand CM in changed circumstances, the people of Rairangpur sub-division in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district expressed joy at seeing another local figure in the national news after Droupadi Murmu became the President of India.

Reflecting the sentiment, SK Mohapatra expressed happiness and extended congratulations to Kalpana, referring to her as a daughter of Odisha.

Kalpana Soren originates from Tentala village in Bahalda block, Rairangpur sub-division, Mayurbhanj. She is the eldest daughter of retired defence personnel and received her education at Kendriya Vidyalaya in Baripada, the district headquarters.

Her educational journey involved pursuing a BTech degree from a Bhubaneswar institute followed by an MBA, as shared by her uncle Jagannath Murmu. The marriage between Hemant and Kalpana Soren was conducted according to Santhal rituals in Baripada on February 7, 2006.

Kalpana Soren’s father, Ampa Murmu, resides in his own house in Baripada’s Murgabadi area. Sujata Murmu, a former Mayurbhanj zilla parishad president, expressed that Kalpana Soren’s ascension to the role of Jharkhand’s Chief Minister would serve as a significant morale boost for tribal girls and women in both Jharkhand and Odisha.
