Jan Suraaj Party (JSP) founder Prashant Kishor on Sunday announced candidates for five Bihar Legislative Council constituencies, intensifying the contest ahead of the November elections.
Kishor, who represents Bankipur in the Bihar Assembly, announced the names at a press conference.
The JSP has fielded SP Rai from Darbhanga Teachers’, Ravindra Yadav from Darbhanga Graduates’, Afaq Ahmed from Saran Teachers’, Divya Jyoti from Patna Teachers’, and Rajnish Ranjan from Kosi Graduates’.
The Bihar Legislative Council elections will cover eight constituencies – four Teachers’ and four Graduates’ seats — spread across 30 districts. The JSP has previously announced plans to contest all eight seats.
The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) announced candidates for six constituencies on September 11.
Its candidates include Sanjeev Kumar Singh from Patna Teachers’, Dilip Kumar from Patna Graduates’, Nitesh Kumar from Kosi Graduates’, Anil Kumar Jha from Darbhanga Graduates’, Prof Jayram Yadav from Saran Teachers’, and Rashmi Vinayak Gautam from Tirhut Graduates’.
The RJD has yet to announce candidates for Darbhanga Teachers’ and Tirhut Teachers’ constituencies.
The four Teachers’ constituencies are Patna, Darbhanga, Saran and Tirhut, while the Graduates’ constituencies are Patna, Darbhanga, Kosi and Tirhut.
The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is also preparing to field candidates backed by the BJP and JD(U), setting the stage for contests involving multiple parties.
Candidate profiles, organisational networks and local support among teacher and graduate voters will shape the electoral contest.
