Jammu & Kashmir Cabinet Passes Resolution For Statehood Restoration

On Thursday, the Jammu & Kashmir Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah passed a resolution calling for the restoration of statehood to the region.

The decision came during its first meeting where members urged the Central government to reinstate Jammu & Kashmir’s status as a state

Sources indicate that the Chief Minister will travel to New Delhi in a couple of days to deliver the draft resolution to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He will urge the Prime Minister to restore statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.

Key figures including Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary and ministers Sakeena Masood Itoo, Javed Ahmad Rana, Javaid Ahmad Dar, and Satish Sharma attended the Cabinet meeting.

Addressing the media, Congress JKPCC president Tariq Hameed Karra stated that the party will not join the J&K Cabinet unless the government restores statehood.

Additionally, National Conference president Farooq Abdullah expressed confidence regarding the reinstatement of statehood.

He asserted, “We have talked about statehood before and even today, the Supreme Court has agreed to hear an application seeking restoration of Statehood within two months. I am sure the Government of India will soon restore it.”

When asked if the National Conference will bring up Article 370 or pass a resolution against it in the Assembly, Abdullah said they will have to go back to the court to share their side.

During his visit to the city centre Lal Chowk area, Abdullah emphasized a commitment to reducing VIP culture. He pledged that there will be no more sirens blaring through the streets.

“There will be no more sirens that irritate the ears of the public. Everyone is equal here, whether locals or politicians; there are no VIPs,” Abdullah stated.
