Jamia Millia Islamia Holds Tiranga March In Support Of ‘Nation First’ Campaign

Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) on Monday held a grand Tiranga March to commemorate ‘राष्ट्र प्रथम – A Campaign in Support of Nation First’, an initiative led by the Ministry of Education and Higher Education Institutions across India.

The university’s leadership, staff, and students came together in a powerful display of patriotism and unity to express their steadfast support for the Indian Armed Forces and national security agencies.

Leaders Flag Off March With Message Of Dedication

Vice Chancellor Prof. Mazhar Asif and Registrar Prof Md Mahtab Alam Rizvi flagged off the march at JMI’s iconic Centenary Gate.

The procession concluded at the lawns of the Dean of Students’ Welfare, with hundreds of participants joining in solidarity.

Addressing the gathering, Prof Asif said: “Jamia Millia Islamia salutes the Indian Armed Forces for their extraordinary courage and their unwavering resolve in defending our borders and national security. Today’s Tiranga March honours their bravery and pays tribute to the decisive leadership of Honourable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, under whose guidance India has sent a clear message against terrorism.”

He emphasised that the march was not only a salute to India’s valiant soldiers but also a public reaffirmation of JMI’s dedication to the nation above all else.

Operation Sindoor And National Solidarity

Prof Md Mahtab Alam Rizvi, echoing the Vice Chancellor’s sentiments, praised Operation Sindoor as a defining moment in India’s ongoing battle against terrorism.

“Operation Sindoor is not only a symbol of our Armed Forces’ courage and resolve, but also of the deep and united support shown by citizens across the country. Jamia was among the first central universities to condemn the horrific terror attack in Pahalgam, planting 26 trees in memory of the victims,” he said.

He added that the university community had assembled to renew its commitment to the principles of national service and to reinforce the ethos of putting the country first.

Widespread Participation From University Community

A large number of university members took part in the event, including deans, department heads, faculty members, administrative staff, and support workers such as malis and safai karmis.

The National Cadet Corps (NCC) and National Service Scheme (NSS) wings of JMI also participated enthusiastically, demonstrating the youth’s dedication to national causes.

As the marchers further carried the national flag with pride, the event reflected a broader spirit of solidarity and respect for the armed forces.

More than just a ceremonial gesture, the Tiranga March symbolised JMI’s enduring commitment to safeguarding the values of unity, democracy, and national integrity.
