Jaishankar To Represent India At 81st UNGA, Address High-Level Debate On September 26

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will lead the Indian delegation during the high-level week of the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York.

He will deliver India’s address at the High-Level Session on September 26 and participate in multiple bilateral and plurilateral meetings, the Ministry of External Affairs said.

The 81st UN General Assembly will bring together leaders from across the world to strengthen international cooperation and accelerate efforts towards the Sustainable Development Goals.

The session will also focus on collective efforts to advance peace, dignity and equality while protecting the planet.

The General Debate will take place from September 22 to 28, allowing leaders and senior representatives from the 193 UN member states to outline their national priorities.

The discussions are expected to cover interconnected issues including conflicts, economic pressures, humanitarian emergencies, climate change, development and emerging technologies.

Focus on Restoring Global Trust

The central theme of the 81st General Debate is ‘Restoring trust, managing transformation: a United Nations that delivers for all’.

The theme reflects the UN’s focus on strengthening multilateral cooperation while responding to rapidly changing global circumstances.

Several initiatives will accompany the high-level week, including the SDG Media Zone, which will feature interviews and panel discussions on practical solutions linked to sustainable development.

The platform will operate from September 21 to 25, while the Goals Lounge will host discussions on key international issues.

Bangladesh’s Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman will preside over the 81st session of the General Assembly.

The annual gathering will provide representatives of all 193 member states with a platform to present their positions and engage on major international concerns.

Jaishankar’s visit will combine India’s participation in the UN General Assembly with a series of diplomatic meetings.

His engagements in New York will provide an opportunity for India to discuss bilateral priorities and wider international cooperation with partner countries.
