Jairam Ramesh: BJP Uses FIR To Divert Focus From Amit Shah’s Controversial Comments

On Friday, Congress MP Jairam Ramesh criticized the BJP over the FIR filed against Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi, accusing the ruling party of attempting to shift focus away from Home Minister Amit Shah’s controversial remarks about Dr. BR Ambedkar.

He told ANI that the scuffle in Parliament, which led to the FIR, was intentionally orchestrated by the BJP.

“Delhi Police will do whatever the home minister will say to them. Whatever happened in front of the Makar Dwar was completely planned. The home minister insulted BR Ambedkar, and we all demanded an apology, they planned all this to distract from the issue. He (the home minister) should have apologized. This FIR was not against Rahul Gandhi; this is against BR Ambedkar,” Ramesh stated.

CPI MP P Sandosh Kumar also weighed in, accusing the BJP of filing a ‘fake case’.

“It’s a fake case. We were trying to protest peacefully and we all were blocked. Many MPs including me were pushed down by BJP MPs. I fell and had slight injuries also. To distract attention from the burning issue of insulting Babasaheb Ambedkar, the BJP is coming with a new version that a woman was attacked by Rahul Gandhi. This is completely baseless and we challenge the concerned authorities to make the video footage available in the public domain. We have an excellent CCTV camera system. Why can’t you publish it and let the public know the truth?” Kumar asserted.

The FIR was registered by Delhi police following a scuffle that broke out in Parliament on Thursday during protests by opposition and BJP MPs.

Senior Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge alleged he was pushed during the incident, which resulted in two BJP MPs being injured.

FIR Against Rahul Gandhi Shows BJP’s Desperation: Priyanka Gandhi Vadra

Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also criticized the FIR, calling the government’s actions a sign of desperation.

Speaking about the FIR, the Wayanad MP stated, “The entire country is watching; they have slapped several cases on Rahul Gandhi. They bring in new FIRs and lie. This shows their desperation level.”

The tensions began when Rahul Gandhi and other MPs from the INDIA alliance led protests in Parliament. They demanded an apology and resignation from Amit Shah over his remarks on Dr. Ambedkar.

BJP MP Pratap Chandra Sarangi claimed he was injured when a fellow MP fell on him after being pushed by Rahul Gandhi. Sarangi said he was standing near the stairs when another MP fell onto him, causing an injury to his head.

“I was standing near the stairs when Rahul Gandhi came and pushed a fellow MP. That MP fell on me, causing me to fall as well,” Sarangi said.

The two MPs were admitted to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital in Delhi, where hospital officials have confirmed that their condition is stable.
